A colourful penthouse apartment in the heart of King’s Cross, London.

Studio Rey were appointed to provide a full project package for a modern apartment with expansive views over the new Coal Drops Yard development in King’s Cross.

The apartment required a considered reworking of the kitchen and entrance hall to better utilise the space for our client. We opened up the large but unusable kitchen storage cupboard to create an easily accessible pantry unit and practical bin storage cupboard which has been shielded by an elegant oak slatted screen. The large island was reworked- a stained oak slatted front with a curved corner softens its impact on the space and a raised plinth allows for kitchen clutter to be shielded from the dining area and provides accessible power points. Suspended oak shelves clearly define the kitchen area from the living space and provide space to display treasured objects.

In the entrance hall we softened the harsh corner of the cabinetry as you enter the apartment by removing the storage cupboard and replacing it with a bench and curved shelving- this opens up the space and provides a more welcoming entrance to the home.

We provided detail designs for built in joinery throughout the home and worked closely with the client and joiner to create cost effective, functional and beautiful furniture pieces.

.Led by our client’s love of bold colour and inspired by their collection of artwork and ceramics we suggested an injection of colour balanced by warm and textural natural materials throughout the apartment with an aim to soften the modern feel of the home whilst retaining a bright and contemporary feel.

“We feel very fortunate to have found Grace who was an absolute joy to work with. Our apartment in the King’s Cross development was a complex challenge. Grace listened carefully, helped us clarify our brief and came up with a range of inspired ideas.  She pushed us to be brave and worked collaboratively to ensure that the end result was even better than we had ever believed possible.  We wouldn’t hesitate to work with Studio Rey again and to recommend them without reservation.”
